season-ish

winter is the perfect season for many people’s favourite passtime|self-pity|everything is so dark and grey|rainy and cold|why do i have to get up so early|nothing is going right|nobody else has to put up with all this stuff|and they are not even showing sympathy|it’s so unfair|it just sucks to be me|be careful not to enjoy the suffering too much though|you might accidently lighten your mood|

social-ish

striving for individuality|aren’t we all, somehow|we are individuals by nature, so it just makes sense to stay the way we were made|but then, why do all of us, at least sometimes, look for conformity|for the strenght that lies in a group of people who think alike, dress alike, act alike|do we fool ourselves by choosing products that seem to be very indiviualistic, or let’s say not that common|take a apple computer as an example|after having bought this piece of individuality we, suddenly, enjoy having joined a group of people that are like us, linked by liking the same things|individuality is fake|

sick-ish

weakness|being sick seems to go hand in hand with being weak|do we get the flu because we were weak|because we couldn’t face the harsh world|did we show weakness when we chose the wrong clothes|two layers of socks, thick sweaters that makes others think you are expectant and pants that touch no skin anymore because of what you wear beneath them|you chickened out|you were too weak to resist the fashion|you got sick|

pic-ish

nowadays face-to-face communication loses importance|the first step to learn more about someone today is googling|the web presence of a person can tell us a lot about them|not so much about the way they are|but about the way they would like to be|and this starts with the profile picture|there is the ‘social’ type that does not seem to be able to part with their friends even for a picture|the ‘serious’ type that uses their passport photo to display themselves|the ‘vain’ type that obviously chose the most flattering picture they own|the ‘creative’ type that photoshops their pictures before they put them online|the ‘nonconformist’ type that chose a cartoon character instead|the ‘humorous’ type that is pulling a face|and so on and so forth|we may disagree on the way someone describes their own character|but we will have to accept the fact that this is how they would like to be seen|

cloth-ish

ever found yourself just watching people passing by|not everybody does it|i do it for the reason to see what they are wearing|how they cover theirselves|of course always in comparison to how i like to either cover my inside or show my inside by choosing the rights clothes for the moment|does the fashion show who we are or do we become what the fashion wants us to be|if i would ever go steal something in a store, what would i be wearing|what is more likely|would i be more tempted to steal if i wore a hooded sweater or a suit|am i able to psychologically switch between hoodie and tux that easily|or do i have a hoodie|and a tux|on demand

ident-ish

sometimes we seem to get trapped in the identity we invented for ourselves|we feel like there is something we cannot do or say because it would be so unlike us|funny thinking|just how stable is our identity|if i would lose my memory and had to start all over again|what kind of person would i become|would i recognize or even like myself|would i be better off without my experiences and memories|would oblivion mean bliss or torture|when i realise that despite its constraints i like my present self too much to find out|is that an epiphany or is it just me affirming my imprisonment yet again|after all it would be so unlike me to even consider doing anything reckless|sometimes i wish i could believe in some kind of god|because then i could entrust someone else with brooding about my identity|and happily accept the constraints of my life as part of some master plan|

engl-ish

is it unfair when a non-native-english-speaker hates listening to other non-native-english-speakers with awful accents|who can say what proper english is|there is no english anymore|too many influences over the last years|too many people mixing it with their own mother-languages|and what is english|the great english language is nothing else but a blend of french, scandinavian and german influences|so let’s keep influencing|but at least get the pronunciation straight|

study-ish

lately i have been wondering, if choosing an interesting topic for your thesis isn’t in fact a very unwise idea|sure, it’s nice to engage in something you’re genuinely interested in, but then again the risk of getting distracted by fascinating sub-topics is high|and if people around you get too interested in your topic, you will inevitably end up disappointing everyone|you might just be better of with the boring topic|

name-ish

mothers love their children|fathers love their children|hence their children get the most beautiful name there is|but what about parents that seem not to love their children|parents of the little girl porsche, or two year old alabama|so we really have mercy for parents who call their children cash, or dusti|although one doesn’t want to push it|but for god’s sake|stick to the bible|at least namewise|

friends-ish

in a time where friends don’t live just next door but across countries, continents, oceans – the mean of communication become unbelievably important to us|having no internet connection is bearable for a couple days, having the words ‘no service’ show on your cellphone display almost physically hurts|we are so used to be ‘connected’ all the time that is feels surreal when one comes to a spot where you can only connect to what your eyes can see, your ears can hear and your hands can touch|the real thing|to surrounding that became less important|we finally see a horizon again|

christmas-ish

so here’s the problem|you don’t like christmas|sentimental carols, cramped department stores, being trapped with your relatives for several days in a row|still you’ve got this advent calendar and think it would be a shame to waste it|i know just the thing|open the first window on the 15th of december|the last window then opens on the 7th of january, the end of all holidays, the day everything is back to normal|now THAT is something to look forward to|

bulgur-ish

one reason why to visit slovenia|bulgur|there is a thought for the ones not familiar with their cereals|if you don’t know the taste than just think you are eating something with a very medicament aftertaste|it is one of slovenian most famous dishes and besides the immense quiet|can you say immense quiet|and the extreme amount of fresh air you can inhale that is the one reason why not to visit this small country|remember the name and avoid it|bulgur or ajdova kasa in the fabulous slovenian language

sloven-ish

did you know|slovenia is in the european union|slovenia has the euro|slovenia, like switzerland has besides the official slovenian also parts where italian and german is still spoken|oh and for the convenience of all travelers english and/or german is well known throughout the country|but why would one be interested in visiting slovenia -that is yet to be discovered|

art-ish

Antony Gormleyantony gormley|he seems to be quite picky about where he shows his awesome art|at the moment he is exibiting ‘feeling material’ in the deutsche bundestag|the word goes around that even the deutsche bundestag had lots of problems convincing him to exibit in the most important building in germany|go look at it and envy berlin|oh white cube gallery has him too|

first-ish

this is a first entry on x-ish|x-ish is a blog for the little things in life that flow besides the life we are so wrapped up in|as an example we all know art (at least we think we do) but art-ish is is about the art-world of the not so obvious|
